Montpellier Management (MOMA), part of the University of Montpellier, made asynchronous online learning the core of its teaching model as early as 2006. Aptilink has administered its Open LMS platform since 2022.
The goal: to guarantee the operational stability of a setup that a community of more than a thousand active users (students, teachers and administrative staff) relies on every day, and to develop it without putting it at risk.
Background & challenge
Committed since 2006 to a pioneering approach to fully online teaching, MOMA is today among the most advanced institutions in French higher education in this field. That structuring choice, sustained and developed over almost twenty years, reflects a clear vision and solid expertise in designing and running distance learning provision.
The project is one of continuity, consolidation and development of a setup that works and that its teams know inside out. It is this operational stability, built over time, that has to be guaranteed and moved forward.
Beyond the figures, the setup carries real organisational complexity: eight programmes delivered entirely online, from undergraduate to master’s level, backed by partnerships with the CNED, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and the Institut Universitaire du Golfe de Guinée.
What we did
These partnerships create a multi-audience, multi-class organisation of unusual granularity: within a single course, several groups of students from different partners coexist, with strictly separate facilitation spaces, distinct facilitators and differentiated access rules.
Aptilink has administered this fine-grained architecture since 2022: structuring cohorts and spaces, managing rights and access, configuring pathways, and supporting the teaching and administrative teams.
It calls for a platform that is both robust in its structure and flexible in its configuration — two qualities Open LMS brings together, and that four years of delivery for MOMA have fully confirmed.

More than a thousand active users — students, teachers and administrative staff — rely on the setup every day, with all eight programmes delivered entirely online, from undergraduate to master’s level.
Four years of continuous administration have confirmed how robust the Open LMS foundation is, and how well its configuration suits a multi-audience, multi-partner organisation.
MOMA keeps control of a teaching model built over almost twenty years, with a technical partner able to ensure both its continuity and its evolution.
